From casual chic staples for women to hygge basics for men, these are the trends that are expected to impact the womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, and beauty markets during the month of December.

Women

Women are preparing for a CDC-approved night in this New Year’s Eve. While New Year’s dress (-38% to LY) and New Year’s Eve dress(-65% to LY) are on their way out, more casual, yet equally chic, alternatives remain safe bets. A cropped cardigan sweater (+86% to LY) and split hem pants (+325% to LY) make for the perfect holiday outfit. Social buzz for cropped cardigan sweater is +1,600% to last year and market adoption is +7% in the last 30 days.

Men

Men are approaching the winter months with an affinity for comfort, coziness, and Scandinavian culture. With men embracing the hygge lifestyle, items like men’s clogs (+16% to LY), men’s hooded fleece (+4% to LY), and men’s thermal leggings (-9% to LY) are emerging and likely to grow in the next few months. Top brands for men’s clogs include Crocs, Birkenstocks, and Dearfoams.

Beauty

With the new year just around the corner, consumers are ready to get back into their usual hair styling routine. Folding hair dryer (+29% to LY) and hair straightener (+10% to LY), for example, are both experiencing emerging growth. Blow dry brush (+120% to LY), hair waver (+118% to LY), and hot brush (+56% to LY) are all considered safe bets. It is important to note, however, that the term ceramic flat iron (-28% to LY) is on its way out, showing that hair straightener might be the better term for SEO purposes.

Kids

Girls are swapping traditional plaid dresses (-20% to LY) for leopard shirts (+26% to LY) and polka dot dresses (+13% to LY) this holiday season. Exhibiting emerging behavior, girls polka dot dress is a top market mover and new to market, 62% of products are new within the last three months, and 27% of the newly available SKUs are out of stock.
