In typical fashion, London brought to life some of the most colorful, daring, and inspiring beauty looks of fashion month so far. With neon dye jobs at Charlotte Knowles and swatches of matte pigment at Bethany Williams, London Fashion Week was marked by looks that are uplifting and easy to recreate during these unprecedented times.

Nightlife looks from the 80s, 90s, and 00s are back and bolder than ever, despite most clubs being closed for business. Charlotte Knowles took statement beauty to the next level with an array of throwback hairstyles (think: neon green hair, baby bangs, zig-zag braids) and bedazzled body jewelry. The designer tapped makeup artist Thomas de Kluyver to add rhinestone butterflies and graphic lines all over the body for a party-ready look. Elsewhere, at Mark Fast, there was a playful and optimistic energy — bold mascara, vivid purple eyeshadow, and voluminous hair.

A practical departure from what we’ve come to expect out of London, there was an understated sense of drama on display this season. At Erdem and Simone Rocha, hairstyles drew inspiration from period dramas with ringlets, ribbons, and updos. Erdem hairstylist Anthony Turner wrapped a white ribbon around windswept updos to create the appearance of stacked headbands.

After the introduction of subtle pastel strands in New York, London was all about an unexpected pop of neon hair color. From the neon green buzzcut at Gareth Pugh to the hot pink strands at Roksanda, hair color packed a serious punch.

Even before the start of the SS21 runway season, mask-friendly beauty looks were on the rise. Bora Aksu introduced a new way to approach makeup while wearing a face mask when he sent models down the runway in sheer organza masks with bright pink, purple, and pale blue lipstick underneath. At Molly Goddard and Vivienne Westwood, red lipstick was the ultimate lip color.
