The Top 5 Beauty Trends from Paris Fashion Week
The Spring/Summer 2021 fashion month season has come to an end. Similar to previous cities, designers at Paris Fashion Week adapted to our current climate with a mix of traditional runway shows and digital presentations.
Embracing and celebrating the expressive nature of young consumers, Dior, Dries van Noten, and Paco Rabanne showcased experimental styles that consumers can recreate from the comfort of their own homes. At Dries Van Noten, Sam McKnight added stacks of bobby pins between finger waves for an unexpected and affordable hair accessory. Paco Rabanne presented a new take on bangs, which have emerged as this season’s standout hair trend.
Eyes and lips continued to be the focal point for makeup artists, but, in true Parisian style, it was rare if beauty looks included both. Bold black eyeliner was prevalent at Giambattista Valli, Christian Dior, and Chloe, as were black smokey eyes — found at Koché, Lutz Huelle, Chanel, Olivier Theyskens, and Maison Margiela. At Dior, lead makeup artist Peter Phillips drew inspiration from the show space to inspire his eye makeup look. Thick black eyeliner circled the models’ eyes to make the whites stand out as much as possible. At Chanel and Lutz Huelle, sheer black eyeshadow was swept across the eyes.
Nail looks were few and far between, as more designers opted to keep nails bare. Sheer, glossy nails were prevalent at Balmain, Stella McCartney, and Louis Vuitton, as were black nails, found at Chanel. Giambattista Valli was one of the only designers to show nail art in Paris this year. The designer tapped nail artist Liza Papass who painted nails nude and decorated two random nails with blue eyes.

Maximalist looks took a backseat to work-from-home-friendly hair, easy to recreate eyeliner looks and an illuminated complexion. Pat McGrath presented her case for a glowing complexion at Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu, where she used two new Pat McGrath Labs products, Skin Fetish: Sublime Skin Highlighter in Champagne Gold and Lust: Luxe Lip Balm.
Two Tone Hair

Two tone dye jobs were one of the most expressive (and experimental) hair trends to emerge from Paris Fashion Week. The haphazard application is easy to recreate at-home, ideal for life in lockdown.
Heavy Fringe

Just like we’ve seen in London, Milan and New York, in Paris there was an emphasis on bangs, from side-sweeping to supersized. Dramatic cheek-grazing bangs came courtesy of Y/Project and Paco Rabanne, meanwhile Victoria Tomas kept things soft and feminine with shaggy chic fringe.

Designers at Paris Fashion Week were in the mood for something dramatic and edgy. Many of the shows — including Chanel and Giambattista Valli — emphasized the juxtaposition between punk beauty and soft femininity. Dark smokey eyes and bold black eyeliner were paired with charming braided hairstyles and hair accessories like oversized bows and crystal headpieces. At Chanel, makeup artist Lucia Pica smudged four different black and gray eye shadows across lids to give the look a “’90s Winona Ryder feel.”
