Top 5 Trends: Emmy Awards 2019
Last night, the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards honored the best in television from Fleabag to Game of Thrones. With it came a new wave of red carpet looks that showcased some of this season’s formal wear trends. We breakdown TV’s best-dressed stars below.
Two Tonal
Red and pink was the color combo of the night with actresses like Taraji B. Henson, Mandy Moore, Susan Kelechi Watson, and Marisa Tomei all sporting the two tone look. After releasing her first original song in 10 years and announcing her plans to release an album in 2020, Mandy Moore stepped into the spotlight in a custom color-block Brandon Maxwell gown.
Carpet-Ready Corsets
Zendaya may have worn the most talked about look on the red carpet last night. Her custom one-shoulder Vera Wang gown featured sheer corset details and a hip-high slit. The Euphoria star and her Poison Ivy-inspired look generated over 1 million social actions on Instagram last night alone. Indya Moore and Sophie Turner followed suit with corseted gowns by Louis Vuitton.
Ruffled Romance
Heidi Gardner and Lena Headey brought romance to the red carpet with soft florals and gauzy pastel fabrics. The SNL star took her look to the next level with a pearlescent Cult Gaia bag and textured pearl hair. Maya Erskine and Eris Baker opted for tiered tulle and whimsical crystal embellishments.
Asymmetric Glam
Red carpet regular Billy Porter injected some excitement into the menswear category with an asymmetrical Stephen Jones hat and a custom Michael Kors suit embellished with over 130,000 hand-embroidered mini crystals. Viola Davis’ black and white Alberta Ferretti gown became an instant classic with a modern twist, while Ozark star Julia Garner’s violet Cong Tri gown featured an asymmetric bishop sleeve and waist-revealing cutout.
Shoulder Drama
Voluminous sleeves turned heads as Dascha Polanco and Zoe Kazan walked the carpet in dramatic puff sleeve gowns by Christian Siriano and Gucci, respectively. Vera Farmiga and Lilly Singh took a more subtle approach with leg of mutton sleeves. The ‘A Little Late’ host wore a one-shoulder Kimberly Parker Atelier gown in deep emerald.
